Which certification is required for citizenship?
The law requires an Italian-language certification of at least CEFR level B1, issued by a recognised body: CILS (University for Foreigners of Siena), PLIDA (Società Dante Alighieri), CELI (University for Foreigners of Perugia) or Roma Tre University.
CILS, PLIDA or CELI: which one?
All three are valid. CILS B1 Cittadinanza is the format designed specifically for citizenship (shorter tests); PLIDA B1 and CELI 2 are the general B1 certifications. Pick your exam in the app and the content adapts.
How is the exam structured?
Every certification tests the four skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking. Format, duration and number of tests vary by the chosen body.
How does grading work?
Each body has its own criteria: PLIDA, for example, requires a pass in every skill (18/30). The app gives a pedagogical estimate of your level per test, only the official result from the certifying body is authoritative.
Are the questions and audio official?
No, the questions and audio are original, created by our team in the format of the real tests. We respect the intellectual property of the certifying bodies and do not reproduce any official exam. Audio is generated with synthetic Italian voices.
How do mock exams work?
The app offers full timed papers in exam format, with a single listen like the real day. At the end you get an estimated score per test and an indicative verdict.
What is smart review?
An adaptive algorithm that selects questions prioritizing your weak spots: poorly mastered topics, material type (audio vs text) and questions reviewed a long time ago (spaced repetition).
Is the app official?
No, PrepaItalia is an unofficial practice app. CILS, PLIDA and CELI are trademarks of their owners. We are not affiliated with the certifying bodies or any official organisation.
Is my data safe?
Your progress data is stored locally on your device and synced anonymously via Firebase. We do not collect data that identifies you directly (no name, no email). No advertising is shown.
