What is the CIPLE?
The CIPLE (Certificado Inicial de Português Língua Estrangeira) is the A2-level certificate from CAPLE (University of Lisbon). It is the certificate most used to prove the language knowledge required by the Portuguese Nationality Law.
How is the exam structured?
The CIPLE has 3 components: reading comprehension & written production (45% of the grade), listening comprehension (30%) and oral production & interaction (25%). The first two take about 1h45; the oral test is scheduled separately.
How does grading work?
The grade runs from 0 to 100. You pass from 55%: Suficiente (55–69), Bom (70–84) and Muito Bom (85–100). The app estimates your grade with the same weighting, only the official CAPLE result is authoritative.
Does the certificate expire?
No. The CIPLE certificate has no expiry date and is recognised for nationality, work and study.
What is the citizenship test (TNIC)?
The app includes a dedicated bank of questions on culture, society, democracy and rights in Portugal, for those who want to go beyond the language. The module is in preparation and will be activated in a future update.
Are the questions and audio official?
No, the questions and audio are original, created by our team in the CIPLE format. We respect the intellectual property of CAPLE and do not reproduce any official exam. Audio is generated with synthetic European Portuguese voices.
How do mock exams work?
The app offers full timed papers, component by component, with a single listen for the oral like the real day. At the end you get your estimated score per component, your total and an indicative verdict.
What is smart review?
An adaptive algorithm that selects questions prioritizing your weak spots: poorly mastered topics, material type (audio vs text) and questions reviewed a long time ago (spaced repetition).
Is the app official?
No, PrepaPortugal is an unofficial practice app. CIPLE and CAPLE are trademarks of their owners. We are not affiliated with CAPLE, the University of Lisbon or any official body.
Is my data safe?
Your progress data is stored locally on your device and synced anonymously via Firebase. We do not collect data that identifies you directly (no name, no email). No advertising is shown.
